Wu Desheng, who was born in Shanghai in 1961, is recognized as the top person in the jade carving industry and has long been known for carving characters and three-dimensional pieces. He specializes in the use of ancient times, foreign use of Chinese, blending the spatial relationship between Western sculpture and the artistic aesthetics of Chinese art, melting talents and wisdom into jade, soft beauty and free and easy melting into a furnace. In recent years, his works have focused more on innovation and exploration. Pieces of jade under his sculpture, exudes the beauty of art and the flavor of the times.

For Wu Desheng, who has been impregnating jade sculpture art for 10 years, how do you view the relationship between Chinese jade carving techniques and art and how to reconcile the relationship between independent creation and the market? How to inherit the essence and innovate? With these questions, our reporter conducted an exclusive interview.

Poetic, bold and innovative jade carving is one of the oldest carvings in China. Jade is fragile and brittle. It is very difficult to use it as a material for carving. In the field of jade carvings, Wu Desheng belongs to the Shanghai style jade carving. Shanghai-style jade carvings are mainly white jade, and there are also a small amount of jade. Wu Desheng showed his talent for art at a very young age. He entered Shanghai jade carving factory at the age of 15 and received rigorous professional training. Under the influence of Shanghai's culture, he finally formed his own style. He boldly draws on the aesthetics and nutrition of Western human sculptures and gives Chinese traditional sculptures a new meaning. In 2004, he was honored as the master of Chinese jade carving art. In 2006, he was awarded the title of Master of Chinese Arts and Crafts. In January 2012, he was awarded the title of Shanghai Master of Special Grade Jade Carving (Lifetime).

Luo Hanxiang, jade girl jade carving, large rhino horn, etc., dream pens and flowers, Wu Desheng's creation of “Fu Xing Tian Fu” and other Luo Han works have their own demeanor, fun; “Snake Girl” and “Jade Pride” and other jade jade carvings are soft and charming. Wu Desheng's masterpiece “The Next Month” exhibited in the “Guangyu” series was exhibited at this year's Wenbo Shenzhen Antique City branch venue. Its inspiration was derived from the word “beautiful woman”. In modeling, he used exaggerated techniques to highlight the s-shaped figure, showing the femininity of a woman, and injecting a fresh vitality into the traditional jade.

Wu Desheng initially started carving from jade and turned to white jade carving. In his eyes, jade and jewels are dazzling, white jade itself is a jade product, the performance of the art is relatively strong, more millennium history, white, innocent, warm, auspicious, symbolizes the noble character. The jade carving process is extremely difficult, and the creation of a work often exhausts the efforts of jade craftsmen for several years or even several decades. After years of experience, how to complete the "uplift" from technology to art? Wu Desheng said, “Only by combining artistic creation with life experience, will the craftsmanship of Saitama be at its peak. Jade does not work, does not become a device, and Yu Yu, we must express the essence of jade.”

Wu Desheng's pursuit of materials is not harsh compared to those of "materialists," and he believes that materials are connected with the designer's design talent. Wu Desheng emphasized the need to use crafts, art, and culture to conquer people's aesthetics on the issue of independent creation and marketing. “The culture behind jade carving is priceless, not jade, and culture is the soul of jade carving. He feels helpless about the current pursuit of the majority of people to meet the market and believes that the future development trend of the jade carving market is a high-end platform dominated by craft culture and art culture.

“Like” for Shenzhen jade carving culture development

Wu Desheng has a deep relationship with Shenzhen. He spent more than two years in Shenzhen in the 1990s and created a large-scale mountain eagle sculpture weighing 400 kilograms. He used the Qiao Qiao carving to make his work. Majestic, high-quality, won the 1992 Hong Kong jade carving boutique exposition special honor award. In the past few years, he will not be "absent." Last year, he also brought his works to exhibitions in Shenzhen. His eclectic creative ideas and just-arranged artistic exaggerations have caused great repercussions.

In Shenzhen Fudi, Wu Desheng not only trained his skills, but also witnessed the Shenzhen jade carving process from small to large, from a seed into a towering tree. Speaking of this, Wu Desheng paid attention to Shenzhen's emphasis on traditional culture. He believes that although the Shenzhen jade carving process started late, it has developed rapidly, increased rapidly, and has grown in size. The reason is inseparable from the Shenzhen government's continuous support and care for traditional culture. “Shenzhen has discovered a 'cultural gold mine'”.
