It was reported that during the first China Peasant Art Festival, the Korean folk straw crafts from Helong City made a remarkable appearance. As one of the four outstanding villages selected by Jilin Province, Helong showcased its traditional craftsmanship on stage, receiving widespread praise and positive feedback from the audience.
Throughout the exhibition, several high-ranking officials visited the Helong pavilion, including the Vice Premier of the State Council, Minister of Agriculture Han Changfu, Deputy Minister Wei Chaoan, Li Fusheng, Deputy Secretary-General of the Jilin Provincial Government, Ren Kejun, Deputy Director of the Provincial Agriculture Commission, and Yu Wenbo, along with other accompanying officials. They were deeply impressed by the intricate straw sculptures on display. The event also provided an opportunity for the renowned straw artist Cui Shunzi to demonstrate the traditional techniques used in creating these works. The leaders praised the efforts of Wolong City and emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting the traditional Korean straw weaving techniques unique to Helong.
The Helong Municipal Government, along with the Helong Agricultural Bureau and Toudao Town Government, played a key role in organizing the exhibition. They arranged for detailed filming of the straw weaving process, which was later broadcast as part of promotional materials. A total of over 2,000 flyers were distributed during the event, significantly raising awareness about Helong’s straw crafts. This effort helped promote the local industry and supported the initiative of "taking Helong's straw crafts out of Jilin and into the national spotlight."
Notably, leaders and experts from the National Agricultural Exhibition Center in Beijing expressed great interest in Helong’s straw crafts. They highlighted the strong cultural identity and deep historical roots of the art form. In recognition of its value, the Shangyu and Longshi Agriculture Bureaus donated a set of straw artworks, which will now be permanently displayed in the exhibition hall.
At the closing ceremony of the first China Peasant Art Festival, the Korean-style straw woven handicrafts from Helong City were honored with the "China Farmers’ Art Festival One Village One Product Outstanding Project" award, marking a significant achievement for the region. This recognition not only highlights the artistic value of Helong’s traditional crafts but also paves the way for future growth and broader exposure.
