woodland clearing: the fabrics

I'm absolutely thrilled to finally share with you the full details about my debut fabric collection, *Woodland Clearing*, created exclusively for the wonderful folks at Robert Kaufman. As we speak, these fabrics are already making their way into stores, and I couldn't be prouder. This collection consists of 27 vibrant prints crafted on a stunningly soft cotton lawn. ![Woodland Clearing](#) For years, I've been an ardent admirer of Kaufman fabrics, particularly their Kona Cottons, which offer such a diverse palette of solid colors. Kaufman has also expanded its offerings to include a fantastic array of apparel fabrics—denim, chambray, corduroy, jersey knits, and more. It's truly exciting to see quilt shops branching out into these areas, as it makes these fabrics much more accessible to all of us. Finding high-quality apparel fabrics outside of traditional quilting cottons can be quite a challenge, and I know many of you have faced similar difficulties. When the idea of designing my own fabric collection came to mind, working with Kaufman felt like a perfect fit. Collaborating with them has been such a joy, but designing *Woodland Clearing* was no small feat. Each print is inspired by my watercolor paintings, and maintaining that authentic watercolor aesthetic required a lot of attention to detail. These prints may appear simple at first glance, but they're actually composed of multiple shades to create that lifelike watercolor effect. It took countless iterations and strike-offs to get everything just right. If you take a close look at the selvedge edges, you'll see what I mean. I truly believe all the hard work paid off! ![Fabric Stacks](#) The fabrics are printed on the same luxurious cotton lawn as Kaufman’s Cambridge line, and we even introduced some new solid colors to complement the collection. This means you can mix and match the prints and solids freely. Plus, you can pair these fabrics with other Kaufman offerings, like canvas, corduroy, and linen. I put this theory to the test in the photo story I shared earlier, and the results were fantastic. Whether you're creating a wardrobe or quilts, these fabrics blend beautifully together. ![Color Card](#) One of my favorite prints from the collection is also available as a coated fabric, perfect for crafting raincoats or other weather-resistant garments. We recently made a new waterproof Secret Agent Trench Coat for S, and she’s absolutely smitten with it. Stay tuned for more details on that soon! If you're a quilter, you might want to check out the two free quilt patterns inspired by *Woodland Clearing*. The *Bowerbird* and *Wooded Paths* patterns showcase the fabrics beautifully, especially the latter. The softness of the fabrics combined with their intricate designs makes for quilts that feel as good as they look. ![Quilt Patterns](#) Speaking of softness, lawn fabrics are ideal for both children's clothing and adult apparel. You saw some adorable kids' outfits during our recent photo shoot, but here are a few adult pieces to inspire your next project. ![Adult Apparel](#) Whether you're quilting, sewing garments, or simply admiring the beauty of these fabrics, I hope you enjoy working with *Woodland Clearing*. The collection is already being shipped to stores, so I'd love it if you encouraged your local fabric shops to stock it. It will also be available through various online retailers. If you've spotted it somewhere or know a store that carries it, please let us know in the comments below. Sharing this information helps everyone find these fabrics more easily! As always, thank you for your support and enthusiasm. It means the world to me!
